Images of a baby kangaroo all bandaged up after surviving brutal bushfires in Western Australia are being shared on social media.
The heartbreaking photos of the joey were posted to Facebook by the Waroona Veterinary Clinic where the animal is being treated. The injured joey is just one of hundreds of animals that were in need of emergency help after bushfires tore through their wildlife habitat this month.
The Daily Mail reports that the "kangaroo joeys with burned paws, possums with singed tails and birds suffering dehydration are among the animals rushed into emergency care following the raging bushfires."
Many animals received burns on much of their bodies but are expected to survive and hopefully be returned to the wild. The blaze destroyed 143 properties as well as the land that many animals call home.
'The animals have no idea what's going on, they've lost their homes in this too,' Dr. Rebecca Flegg tells ABC.
Members of the community have rallied around these scorched animals, sending donations like pet food and treats to the clinic.
Our lovely Sam did an interview today. Well done Sam!
