Bill and his wife Sheila were married last year, but had known each other for 30 years. Sheila's husband died a few years ago, and Bill took over the role of caregiver before they got married.

Last year she fell, and was moved into a nursing home, Metro reported.

Palmer told listeners that she suffers from dementia, but still remembers him.

His call resonated with listeners, and the crew from BBC Radio Solent.

His story touched them so much so, the radio station invited him to the studio.

He had a cup of coffee as he spoke with the morning show crew.

Palmer has been invited to one family's home for Christmas Eve thanks to his newfound fame and friends, Metro reported.

The radio station is also getting letters and cards and will forward them and will keep in touch with Palmer to make sure he's not lonely anymore.
