The personal finance site recently released its annual "Best & Worst Cities for an Active Lifestyle." To determine the rankings, researchers compared the 100 biggest U.S. cities using 34 key indicators, including most fitness centers per capita, lowest monthly club fitness club fee and lowest percentage of physically inactive adults. Those factors were then categorized into two major categories: budget and participation; and sports and outdoor.

Chicago and Portland placed first and second, respectively, but Atlanta wasn’t too far behind at No. 12, overall. It was No. 12 for budget and participation, and it was No. 15 for sports and outdoors.

The Peach City was also recognized for its numerous tennis courts. It was No. 5 for most tennis courts per capita.

In November, WalletHub called Georgia one of the fattest states in the country for 2017. It was among the top 20 at No. 17, overall, and it was No. 14 for obesity and overweight prevalence.

In the latest report, Atlanta helped the state fare much better thanks to its prevalance of parks and plethora of hiking and biking trails.
