Indonesian illustrator Pinot, also known as Wahyu Ichwandardi, recently took to social media to share his adaptation of the video, documenting his progress in a series of tweets.

He began in June and revealed that he’d been using an old Macintosh SE computer from the 1980s to work on his design. After drawing every frame in an old program called MacPaint, he uploaded the images into an old piece of software called MacroMind to animate it.

"Every single pixel matters," he tweeted.

The artist, who currently lives in New York City, also told his followers he closely examined Sherrie Silver, who choreographed the video for Gambino, also known as Donald Glover, to get the dance sequencing just right.

As of early July, Pinot had created 470 frames and 38 seconds of Gambino's pixelated dancing, posting it to Instagram. The upload went viral, garnering more than 163,000 likes and nearly 3 million views.
