Two women received severe injuries late Friday night after a car plowed into them as they sat on a brick wall, according to Atlanta police.

Officers responded to the incident just before midnight in the 800 block of Peeples Street, where Adrienne Smith and Brianna Johnson were found injured after being dragged up a small embankment by a 2012 white Ford Edge.

The vehicle was suspected of being stolen from an Avis rental lot, police said.

The women were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Smith, who was pinned under the vehicle, was in critical condition with a partially severed left leg below the knee, and Johnson suffered a broken pelvis, police said.

The vehicle was attempting to turn when it left the road and struck the women, dragging them up the embankment, damaging a brick wall and hitting a chain-link fence.

The male driver ran from the scene and had not been located.
