A woman was wounded by gunfire late Wednesday when a stray bullet flew into her Atlanta apartment and struck her, police said.

She was taken to a hospital following the incident, which happened at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Fairburn Road, Atlanta police said in a statement.

Officers were sent to the apartment about 9:35 p.m. and found the woman with a gunshot wound. She told police the bullet had come through her home.
