A woman was wounded by gunfire late Wednesday when a stray bullet flew into her Atlanta apartment and struck her, police said.

She was taken to a hospital following the incident, which happened at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Fairburn Road, Atlanta police said in a statement.

Officers were sent to the apartment about 9:35 p.m. and found the woman with a gunshot wound. She told police the bullet had come through her home.

No other injuries were reported. It is not clear what led to the shooting or who opened fire.

An investigation is ongoing.
