A woman is in critical condition after police said a man shot her and then fatally shot himself early Tuesday morning at an apartment near Ponce City Market in the Old Fourth Ward.

Atlanta police were called to the Glen Iris Lofts in the 600 block of Glen Iris Drive shortly before 2 a.m. about two people shot. When officers arrived, a woman was found suffering from a gunshot wound and a man was found dead from gunfire, police said.

The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Neither of their names were released.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the man shot the woman and then shot himself, police said. Police did not say if the two knew each other.

The apartment where the shooting occurred is just a block away from Ponce City Market.

The shooting comes less than an hour after a death investigation at another Atlanta apartment. Around 1 a.m., Atlanta police were called to Santafe Villa on Metropolitan Parkway and found a man with a stab wound to the chest, police said. One person was detained for questioning after police believe the fatal stabbing may have been a result of an argument with a neighbor, authorities said.
