Cobb County police are investigating the death of a jogger who was killed after she was struck by a vehicle Thursday.

Cary A. Scales, 40, of Smyrna, was hit by a 2004 Nissan Titan truck that was traveling westbound on Paces Ferry Road just before 8 a.m., according to a news release from Cobb police. Witnesses said Scales was jogging on the sidewalk along Woodland Brook Drive. When she got to the corner of Woodland Brook Drive and Paces Ferry Road, she attempted to cross the street against the traffic signal and was hit, according to the release.

Scales was transported to Atlanta Medical Center in serious condition and died from her injuries later in the day, according to police.

The driver of the truck is not being charged, police said.
