A Douglasville woman accused of hitting and killing an 18-year-old as he ran across a busy Buckhead road on New Year’s Eve is behind bars after turning herself in to police, authorities said.

Anushka Ricketts, 31, went to Atlanta police headquarters with her lawyer Friday night and admitted to being the driver who killed the teen nearly 48 hours earlier, police spokesman Officer Steve Avery said.

According to police, Christopher Ruben Feliciano Matias was struck by her Honda Civic early Dec. 31 as he crossed Piedmont Road near Sidney Marcus Boulevard. His body was found in the street when officers arrived about 12:45 a.m.

Later that morning, Atlanta police released a description of the vehicle that struck Matias and announced a $2,000 reward for information in the case.

Ricketts is charged with homicide by vehicle, hit-and-run and failure to yield to a pedestrian. She remains held at the Fulton County Jail without bond, online records show.

Matias’ funeral service will be held Jan. 16 in Chamblee, according to his online obituary.
