A woman sustained second-degree burns in a house fire Thursday afternoon.

Gwinnett firefighters were called to the 200 block of South Alexander Street in Buford just before 2 p.m., a spokesman from the department said.

A woman at the residence during the fire had “moderate burns” on her arms and was transported to a local hospital, said Colin Rhoden of the Gwinnett fire department. No one else was injured.

The house was thought to be vacant and did not have electric or natural gas service, Rhoden said.

The fire was determined to be accidental, but the house was a total loss, with most of the walls and the roof destroyed. It took firefighters a little more than an hour to get the blaze under control.

A neighboring residence sustained minor damage.
