Woman marries herself after failing to find 'the one'

When Yasmin Eleby approached her 40th birthday, she decided a typical party would not suffice. She would also being getting married, but not to a longtime love or beloved companion -- to herself.
She'd hit four decades and still hadn't found "the one," so why should that stop her from having a beautiful wedding? In a ceremony attended by family and friends, Eleby wore an extravagant purple gown, walked down the aisle, sang "I Believe I Can Fly" and wed herself.
There were bridesmaids, flowers and speeches, but no groom.
After the celebration, earlier this month, Eleby took to Facebook to thank attendees and talk about what the event meant to her.
"I was overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support that was shown to me during my celebration of love and life," she wrote. "I couldn't imagine the ceremony being any more poignant and meaningful."
She ended with a message of inspiration to her friends and family.
"I want to encourage each of you to spread your wings and fly! You are not too old, and it's not too late to try something different, learn a new skill, travel to exciting places...Don't be afraid to take risks."
Though the ceremony had many of the traditions of a typical wedding, it was not legally binding.
According to the Daily Mail, Eleby is not the first to take her own hand in marriage. Last summer, an Australian woman married a life-sized cutout of herself for her 50th birthday.
