Three migrants trying to sneak into the back of a truck in France got a serious surprise when they opened the doors and found a huge, live polar bear inside.

Caught on video, six men are seen hopping over a road barrier and swinging open the doors of a truck, stopped in traffic.

It's then that they are met face to face with a caged, young, male polar bear.

Though three of the men decided there was no way they were hitching a ride next to a giant bear and ran away, three others took the chance and jumped in next to the cage.

The migrants didn't make it too far, though, and were stopped down the road by French police who forced them out.

Though the identities of the men are unknown, thousands live in a nearby refugee around Calais and hope to make it into England.

The polar bear, who is only 22 months and named Nissan, continued on his way to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
