A Florida man was arrested on June 24 after police said he attempted to steal a boat outside a restaurant, but forgot the most important thing — untying it.

Jimmie Shuman, 42, almost got away with the boat heist outside the waterfront restaurant Sailor's Return in Stuart when he tried to make off with the 23-foot boat around 10 p.m., TCPalm reports. While attempting to ride off, police said Shuman didn't realize that the boat was still tied to the dock.

The man whose boat he was trying to take, who also happened to be a retired law enforcement officer, detained Shuman and waited until police arrived. He was charged with grand theft of a boat and battery on a law enforcement officer.
