Police charged a central Florida man with attempted murder after he allegedly attacked his neighbor with a machete after an argument over a parking space escalated Friday.

According to Apopka police, Luis Maldonado got into a dispute with his neighbor about where he should park at their duplex, The Orlando Sentinel reported. The two parted ways but just a short time later Maldonado allegedly told the victim he was going to kill him, police said.

As the neighbor was sweeping the carport, Maldonado attacked him with a machete, according to The Orlando Sentinel.

"The victim said he thought he was going to die," Sgt. Ed Chittenden told the newspaper.

The neighbor escaped the attack by defending himself with a broom and only suffered minor injuries, according to police.
