Pizza is practically worshipped in New York City, so it’s no wonder that a pizzeria honored Pope Francis with a pie of his own.

Chef Tony Salihaj  told ABC 7 that he wanted to do something special for the pope during his historic visit to New York City.

So he and a friend have created the ultimate tribute: the likeness of Pope Francis on a pizza.

The pizza guys used mozzarella and ricotta cheeses, tomatoes, anchovies and peppers to create the pontiff’s portrait. Salihaj stressed that they were “pizza men, not artists.”

The pizza took approximately five hours to create.

But the pizza has already proven to be a big hit on social media. Orders are coming in fast and furious for the pope pizzas.
