'Pastafarian' gets permission to wear colander on head for driver's license photo

Nov 16, 2015

The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is apparently real, after a Massachusetts woman is being permitted to wear her colander head wear in her driver's license photo.
Lindsay Miller said she "absolutely loves the history and the story" of Pastafarians, The Associated Press reported.
She said wearing the colander allows her to express her beliefs like other religions.
The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles only allows head coverings or hats for religious reasons, the AP reported.
In August, Miller said she was denied a renewed driver's license because she wore the strainer, The Boston Globe reported.
She filed an appeal and was eventually granted the right to wear the colander in the official photo, the Globe reported.
Pastafarians claim they have existed in secrecy for hundreds of years, according to the group's website.
