A wayward sheep that was finally captured and shorn this week may have set a new world record.

The sheep, a wild, merino ram nicknamed Chris, yielded 89 pounds of wool, which is enough to make 30 sweaters, according to the Associated Press.

According to Guinness World Records, the largest amount of wool from a single sheep shearing is 63 pounds.

The Canberra animal refuge taking care of the sheep says Chris is feeling much better, having been freed of half its body weight. The animal appears to be in good condition, and once doctors clear it, the refuge will find Chris a new home.

Officials believe the sheep is five or six years old and may never have been sheared.

The massive amount of fleece is not commercial quality but may end up in a museum.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
