A man in Richmond somehow escaped serious injury or even death after he passed out on railroad tracks and was run over by a train.

It happened Saturday night, and the 30-year-old suffered only minor injuries, according to Richmond police.

Detective Sgt. Mike Britt said the train passed right over him because he was lying on the tracks between the rails.

Train workers tried unsuccessfully to wake the man, who appeared to be highly intoxicated, Britt said.

Emergency workers carried him out to an ambulance and taken to the hospital.

Britt said he had a minor ankle injury but was otherwise OK.
