If you’re in extreme north Georgia — and up early — you might see a snowflake or two early Saturday.
But for the metro Atlanta area, the forecast includes early-morning rain before temperatures climb to the upper 50s, according to forecasters.
“There is a weather disturbance moving our way that will produce some light rain in the south metro area on Saturday morning between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m.,” according to meteorologist David Chandley with Channel 2 Action News.
Isolated showers should clear, leaving partly cloud skies for the rest of weekend. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 30s before Sunday afternoon’s high temperature will hit nearly 60 degrees, Chandley said.
That is good news for those attending a number of downtown events.
Nik Wallenda, the world-renowned daredevil who thrilled television viewers with his high-wire walks across Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon, will be walking across a wire stretched high above the Georgia Dome’s floor during Saturday night’s Winter Jam Christian music concert.
Other events include Saturday night’s Hawks-Memphis game at Philips Arena.
With the clearing weather, the Georgia Department of Transportation has scheduled roadwork in several spots around metro Atlanta.
On I-85, sign work will require two left lanes to be closed in both directions all weekend between Clairmont and Lenox roads.
Closer to downtown, the three left northbound lanes of I-75/85 from Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to Pine Street will be closed for sign work each night all weekend.
Also nightly, three left lanes of the southbound Connector at Freedom Parkway will be closed for bridge work.
Motorists can also expect occasional lane closures all weekend around the Ga. 400/I-85 Interchange project, according to a GDOT spokesman.
Monday’s forecast includes a 20 percent chance of rain, but the likelihood of precipitation increases for both Tuesday and Wednesday. High temperatures to start the work week will be between the upper 40s and low 50s, according to forecasters.
