With frigid temperatures hanging in the air on Wednesday morning, you won’t want to leave home without swaddling yourself in a warm coat. However, warmer weather is on the way for the afternoon, according to the latest forecast.

The morning is off to a brisk start with temperatures falling in the low 40s. Factoring in the wind chill, it feels closer to 34 degrees in Atlanta.

However, by the afternoon temperatures will rise into the low 50s, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said. A high temperature of 53 degrees is expected.

It’ll also be dry throughout the entire day, which comes as a welcome relief after Tuesday brought freezing rain into the metro.

Despite the cold weather during the morning hours, Monahan said not to start dreaming of a white Christmas just yet.

“The mornings are still going to be cold,” he said. “The afternoons are going to be warmer over the next several days.”

The warming trend is expected to continue into the week and temperatures are expected to tick up into the high 60s right in time for the holiday. By Christmas on Saturday, a high of 70 is in the forecast.

“I know some of you want that white Christmas,” Monahan said. “Not happening this year.”

It is an easy ride through the metro Atlanta area. There are no trouble spots or traffic hangups, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
