The variety and caliber of speakers at the virtual 2020 Democratic National Convention has been at top of mind for viewers and pundits this week. Yet, even in the unusual remote setup of the convention, the performances have also stunned, especially in the case of Jennifer Hudson.
The Chicago native gave one of the most talked about performances of the week Wednesday night. The “Dreamgirls” star, draped in an orange gown, gave a plain-sailing, soul-stirring performance of the Sam Cooke classic “A Change Is Gonna Come.” She performed the song in her hometown at the palatial Chicago Cultural Center.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but #JenniferHudson DID NOT win American Idol in 2004 or make it to the finale. But, here we are 16 years later and she is closing out the Democratic National Convention. You can lose and still be a winner! I feel my help coming on. #DNC2020 pic.twitter.com/Kwoe7bJBLY
