Two dogs were found treading water as the sun was starting to set over a dark green, mossy pool. Exhausted and unable to get out themselves, the canines needed immediate help.

Two Douglas County deputies came to the rescue.

The sheriff’s office released body camera footage Friday of deputies Michael Aziz and Elias Johnson’s efforts. The pair were called to the location in mid-August and found two huskies clutching to the edge of the pool, the video reveals.

“Can y’all come out? Come on,” Aziz said to the huskies.

After a string of barks and howls, the deputes soon realized the dogs were too worn out to climb out. Since there was not enough time to wait for animal control to arrive with the tools to properly pull the dogs out, Aziz and Johnson decided to take their chances.

Aziz used a blanket to pull the first dog out and then pulled the other one by its collar, the video shows. The sheriff’s office confirmed the huskies will be just fine.

“Sometimes to protect and serve requires going the extra mile,” the sheriff’s office wrote in the Facebook post.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reached out to authorities regarding any possible charges in connection to the rescue.
