Instead of rewarding your pet with treats, try minimizing the amount of food you give them for doing something good. A vet would likely recommend a one-third-less kind of diet.

Also, don’t underestimate the value of walking. It helps dogs stay social and fit. Typically, American dogs don’t spend as much time being active, because they are often home alone. Upping outside time can help reduce the weight.
