Members of the Utah House of Representatives passed a bill Monday that would allow drivers to run red lights under certain conditions, KSL reported.
The bill, which passed by a 39-34 margin, now heads to the Senate for approval, the television station reported.
HB 151 amends Utah's current traffic flow laws. It would allow drivers to move through a red light after coming to a complete stop for at least 90 seconds, KSL reported. According to the bill, drivers would be able to proceed after "reasonably determining" that the traffic light has not detected their presence, no other vehicles are approaching the intersection and no other safety hazards exist.
The bill was sponsored by Rep. Ken Ivory, R-West Jordan. Sen. Jacob Anderegg, R-Salt Lake, will sponsor the bill in the Senate, KSL reported.
