Authorities have recovered the body of a Covington teenager after he and his mother’s boyfriend drowned Tuesday while swimming in the Alcovy River.

Dive teams located the body of 14-year-old Dejerein Grier on Thursday morning after two days of searching, Newton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Caitlin Jett said.

Grier was swimming with 38-year-old Antonio Perry at Factory Shoals Park on Tuesday when they both went under and never resurfaced, authorities said. Perry’s body was located Wednesday afternoon, AJC.com previously reported.

The search for Grier was called off about 4 p.m. Wednesday due to inclement weather. Rescue teams returned to the river Thursday at 8 a.m., officials said.
