The eighth annual Shoebox Project, sponsored by United Way of Greater Atlanta, has launched and runs through May 1. Each year, the agency collects shoeboxes filled with toiletries, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, deodorant and lip balm, to be distributed to women and children in homeless shelters throughout the 13-county region United Way serves. The campaign started March 1, and shoeboxes will be delivered by FedEx to more than 80 agencies on Mother’s Day. Last year, individuals and corporations donated 20,000 shoeboxes.
