Human skeletal remains were found in the woods in Paulding County after a property owner stumbled upon them last week, authorities said.

The remains are unidentified, but detectives determined they belong to a man. The sheriff’s office has asked for the GBI’s assistance in the case.

Last Wednesday, authorities were called to a wooded area off Mount Olivet Road in Dallas about 6 p.m. after the remains were discovered by the owner of a rural piece of land, sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Ashley Henson said.

Authorities are going through local missing person cases and those in surrounding jurisdictions in hopes of identifying the remains. They were taken to the GBI Crime Lab for examination.
