A University of Georgia student was charged with aggravated assault after an argument between members of two fraternities early Saturday morning led to a gun being shot.

No one was injured.

Gregory John O’Brien, 21, of Fayetteville, was charged in connection with the incident, which occurred about 3:30 a.m., according to UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson.

Police said that after a verbal altercation between members of two fraternities, a male student brought out a gun, pointed it and shot it in the air.

The Athens Banner-Herald reported police said O'Brien is a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon and that the assault charges are for allegedly pointing a semiautomatic handgun at two members of Pi Kappa Alpha. A .45-caliber handgun was recovered in a police search of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity house.

O’Brien is charged in warrants with two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm on school grounds and reckless conduct, the paper said.
