Fires Monday at homes in south Fulton and Coweta counties left two women dead, authorities said.

Glenn Allen, spokesman for the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner's office, said Sanji Waters Harris, 49, died in a blaze that broke out around 7:15 p.m. at a house on Virginia Avenue in Newnan.

Allen said Tuesday that while the cause of the fire was still under investigation, it appeared to be accidental and possibly started by unattended cooking.

No other injuries were reported.

The Coweta County blaze was the second fatal fire of the day reported in south metro Atlanta.

A woman was found dead Monday following a fire on Palmview Court, off Cascade Palmetto Highway in south Fulton County.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office identified that woman as Sabrina DeRamus, 39, of Atlanta.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
