Greenacres and Palm Beach County fire rescue crews battled mobile home fires today.

One of the mobile home fires was on South Stuart Circle, south of Lake Worth Road. The fire them spread through the backyard to another mobile home on Marco Court.

Red Cross volunteers provided the 40 firefighters with hydration and gave food and clothing to two adults and three children. The volunteers also set up the family with a place to stay.

Two mobile homes were almost completely destroyed but firefighters did save the family’s pet turtle.

“The family was very happy to be reunited with the pet,” Palm Beach County Fire Rescue spokesman Capt. Albert Borroto said. “It could have been more tragic, especially for the children.”
