Southern Co. said Kimberly Greene has been elected president and chief executive officer of Southern Company Services.

Greene will oversee the Atlanta-based company’s information technology, human resources, supply chain management, marketing services, business performance services and system aircraft functions. She will also head Souther Co.’s wireless telecom services, SouthernLINC Wireless, the company’s wholesale fiber optic network provider, Southern Telecom.

Greene is currently executive vice president and chief generation officer of the Tennessee Valley Authority, where, among other things, she is responsible for coal and gas operations, power supply and fuels, and generation construction.

She will succeed Susan Story, who is retiring from Southern Co. to become chief financial officer of New Jersey-based American Water.

Greene started her career at Southern Co. and was senior vice president of finance and treasurer before leaving for the TVA in 2007. She has served as the TVA’s chief financial officer, executive vice president of financial services and chief risk officer.

Greene, who will join the company in April, will also have a seat on Southern Co.’s management council.
