Trump’s singular tweet like about Issa Rae’s ‘Insecure’ gets Twitter talking

Issa Rae responded to the tweet like Monday

5 things you may not know about Issa

There are few weeks that pass by without President Donald Trump’s tweets becoming water cooler conversation (even at home offices). In a rare occurrence Sunday, the president’s tweet like caused heads to turn.

Trump has only one tweet like listed on his public Twitter page, but his primary feed is full of thousands of tweets on everything from the Senate to Minneapolis protests.

His current singular tweet like is not related to social unrest nor political happenings at the Senate. Instead, Trump liked a tweet about hit HBO show “Insecure,” which was just renewed for a fifth season. User @shiningheaux tweeted a  GIF from the classic film “The Color Purple” of young Celie and Nettie playing in a field.

The caption reads: “This is how I wanted tonight’s episode of insecure to end...Damn Molly.”

The user was expressing dismay with the unsuccessful friendship reconciliation of former best friends Issa (Issa Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji). Seemingly showing his familiarity with the comedy and its latest Season 4 episode, Trump liked the tweet.

The tweet like has left some confused and others with a sliver of camaraderie with Trump.

Kumail Nanjiani, Rae’s costar in the recently released Netflix film “Lovebirds,” said he found the tweet like as the one connection he has with the president.

Others believed the tweet like was his attempt to make nice with the ubiquitous Black Twitter, which is the nickname given to the bevy of African American Twitter users who shape public opinion on culture, politics, music and fashion.

Rae, the star, executive producer and co-creator of "Insecure," responded bluntly to the president's show of support. In a brief tweet reply, Issa wrote: "what the (expletive) is this."
