A state trooper fired at a suspect during a Monday morning car chase in DeKalb County, officials said.
Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Tracey Watson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that a trooper attempted to pull over 34-year-old Decatur resident Johnny Terry for speeding on I-285 near Flat Shoals Road. Terry drove off, Watson said, and the trooper gave chase.
Officials told Channel 2 Action News that the pursuit ended when Terry exited the interstate at Bouldercrest Road while “driving real erratic.” He reportedly drove over a median and slammed into a pole.
“The trooper’s firearm was discharged during the incident,” Watson told the AJC. “No one was injured.”
It was unclear how many shots were fired.
Watson said Terry was involved in a pursuit with the Suwanee Police Department earlier in the day but that “the trooper was not aware of this incident until after the pursuit.”
Channel 2 reported that the Suwanee chase occurred around 7:30 a.m. and that the Georgia State Patrol chase happened about an hour later.
Online records showed Terry was booked into the DeKalb County jail shortly before 11 a.m. Monday on charges including fleeing or attempting to elude, speeding and reckless driving.
No further information was immediately available.
