Update: BMW strikes man lying on I-285 in DeKalb
Investigators Monday were trying to determine why a man who died on I-285 in DeKalb County Sunday night was on the interstate.
The incident, which happened around 9:15 p.m. Sunday on I-285 westbound at Buford Highway, shut down all westbound lanes along with the ramp from I-85 southbound to I-285 westbound for several hours.
Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Tracey Watson said a BMW driven by a 39-year-old Marietta man struck a man lying in the second lane from the median wall.
“At this time, it is inconclusive as to whether or not the man was deceased prior to the BMW hitting him, or if the impact from the BMW is the cause of death,” Watson said.
Authorities have not released the name of the man killed.
