A woman was killed and a man was injured in an early morning crash in Cherokee County, the sheriff’s office said.

Joseph Handel, 55, of Jasper, was heading south on Ball Ground Highway just before 6:20 a.m. Wednesday when he turned left onto Jordan Road and hit a northbound Chevrolet Tahoe, Cherokee sheriff’s spokeswoman Marianne Kelley said.

The impact of the crash caused the Tahoe to flip on its roof, according to Kelley.

Passenger Kirsten Robertson, 21, of Ball Ground, died. Driver Dylan Robertson, 20, of Ball Ground, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, Kelley said. A third person in the Tahoe, an unidentified girl, was not injured.

Traffic investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash.

“Criminal charges will be determined at the conclusion of the investigation,” Kelley said.
