Authorities are investigating after a man ran a stop sign and collided with another car in a deadly Athens crash, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the accident that killed Jeremy Wagner just after 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Athens-Clarke County police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez said.

Wagner, 28, of Watkinsville, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala south on Epps Bridge Road, ran a stop sign and collided with a 2007 Hyundai Tiburon, Rodriguez said.

The Tiburon was turning left from Old Epps Bridge Road onto northbound lanes of Epps Bridge Road at the time. It is unclear if that driver was injured in the crash.

Wagner was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, Rodriguez said.
