A crash involving a chicken truck caused delays Tuesday on I-85 north in Gwinnett County, a fire spokesman said.

Officials responded to the crash just before 5:10 a.m. past Hamilton Mill Road.

“Crews arrived to find a flatbed tractor trailer off the roadway and into the woodline,” Gwinnett fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in a news release.

The truck was hauling empty poultry crates.

The driver was helped out of the truck and taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville with non-life threatening injuries.

There were no other vehicles involved and no other injuries.

The incident initially blocked a right lane and also slowed down southbound lanes, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

But all lanes opened just after 6:40 a.m., the Traffic Center reported.

A wrecker will remove the truck from the woodline later Tuesday morning, Rutledge said.
