Speed is believed to be a factor in a crash that killed a man Saturday morning on southbound Ga. 400, Atlanta police said.

The driver of a 2004 Ford Taurus was ejected from his car at the ramp to southbound I-85, Sgt. Warren Pickard said in a statement.

About 5:40 a.m., the driver drifted and sideswiped a white BMW, Pickard said. The Taurus then lost control and struck the right guard rail. That collision sent the car across lanes and into the guard rail.

The car re-entered the road and struck a Ford pickup, Pickard said. The driver was then ejected into the road and was struck by other southbound vehicles.

The victim’s identity was not immediately known.

Charges are not anticipated for the other drivers in the incident.

All lanes reopened to traffic shortly before 9 a.m.
