A Georgia Department of Transportation contractor has died in an incident at the I-285 and Ga. 400 interchange, officials said Thursday afternoon.

A GDOT spokesman confirmed that a worker on the I-285/Ga. 400 interchange project was killed in an "accident."

Sandy Springs officials said drivers should avoid the area and expect delays.

GDOT did not have additional details it can share at this time, spokesman Scott Highley told AJC.com.

Traffic on I-285 eastbound is moving slowly, according to Channel 2 Action News.
