An Atlanta motorcyclist died after a driver crashed into his motorcycle and three others stopped along a Florida highway, authorities said.

John Hawkins, 53, of Atlanta, died on the scene near mile marker No. 57.

The crash happened when 23-year-old Sean Marlin veered his pickup truck off the Florida Turnpike Saturday night and hit a group of metro Atlanta motorcyclists on the southbound shoulder, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

“It is unknown at this time if the riders were seated in their motorcycles or standing on the shoulder,” Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alvaro Feola said.

Two of the motorcyclists were injured in the incident.

Angela Richardson, 52, of Atlanta, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Thomas Nunn, 62, of Smyrna, had minor injuries.

Marlin, of Sunrise, Fla., and motorcyclist — Raphael Holmes, 55, of Stone Mountain — weren’t injured in the crash.

Investigators are working to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to The Associated Press.
