An overturned truck on I-285 East caused major delays south of Atlanta stretching from Tuesday afternoon into the evening.

The crash on the Jonesboro Road exit brought a “massive response” from police, firefighters and other emergency services to the outer loop of the Perimeter around 6 p.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Traffic cameras in the area showed a small excavator moving debris spilled by the truck off of the Jonesboro Road exit. It’s not clear what the truck was carrying, but officials said the crash would take hours to clear.

The crash cleanup was moved onto the shoulder by 9 p.m., allowing officials to reopen all lanes on I-285 East. Less than an hour later, traffic cameras showed cars flowing smoothly past the scene of the crash.
