North Georgians who are still working to clean up damage from wet weather earlier this week are in for good news on Thursday. It’s predicted to be a “really nice day,” according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologists.

“It’s been wet. It’s been rainy. It’s been soggy. But we’re about to turn the corner and have some nicer weather,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

Much of North Georgia will see dry, warm weather with plenty of sunshine starting in the afternoon hours. A high temperature of 82 degrees is predicted.

The morning is starting off at about 73 degrees with a few clouds in the sky. There’s still a chance for a popup shower to develop, but the rainfall won’t be widespread.

It is welcome relief after Tuesday night’s torrential downpours that flooded homes, washed out roads and left some drivers stranded in water in the northern Atlanta suburbs. Efforts to clean up the damage stretched into Wednesday.

“If we get a shower today, it’ll be at 9 or 10 o’clock in the morning,” Monahan said.

Monahan said increasing sunshine throughout the day will make for warm, pleasant outdoor conditions.

The clouds will move out by lunchtime and temperatures will climb to 77 degrees by noon. By 2 p.m., temperatures will increase to 80 degrees before hitting the day’s predicted high about 4 p.m. About 10 of the day’s 12 daylight hours will be sunny.

“But tonight as the north wind develops and dry air blows in, it’ll be a little chilly tomorrow,” Monahan said.

Friday morning will feel noticeably cooler, with temperatures in the 60s. But there will be plenty of sunshine and temperatures are expected to climb into the 80s by the afternoon.

“Outdoor plans look amazing as we ride into the weekend,” Monahan said.

Drivers in Atlanta will want to be mindful of traffic through Midtown. A crash is blocking multiple lanes of the Downtown Connector at 10th Street, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
