Five things you should know Wednesday, August 5:

1. Less than a week after Confederate flags were placed on the property, Ebenezer Baptist Church received a series of racially charged emails. At least one email takes the church and its pastor, the Rev. Raphael Warnock, to task for focusing on the flag and not black crime. [Read more here]

2. The father of former South Carolina standout Jadeveon Clowney has been arrested on attempted murder charges, according to the State. The State reports that Clowney's father, David Morgan, opened fire on an employee of the Crazy Horse club early Wednesday morning. [Check here for more of the story and for updates]

3. The DeKalb County Commission voted 4-3 Tuesday to approve an incentive package for Atlanta United FC to build a $30 million soccer complex — a 3,500-seat stadium, three practice fields and a two-story team headquarters — along I-285 near Memorial Drive, behind the DeKalb Jail. [Read more here] 

4. Christine Quinn knew one woman who would be perfect for her wedding. Quinn had known her for her entire life and undoubtedly loved her unconditionally. That's right, her grandma, 89-year-old Betty Govern, aka Nana Betty. [Read more and see the video here]

Retired Army Lt. Col. Raquel Durden, who was named Georgia Woman Veteran of the Year, rode in the Georgia Veterans Day Parade in Midtown Atlanta on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025.
