Investigator and Former Attorney General Mike Bowers released new details in the DeKalb County corruption probe Thursday, just a day after CEO Lee May denied he'd ever borrowed money from a subordinate. 3. Gunman opens fire at Oregon college; at least 9 killed

A gunman identified as 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer opened fire at Umpqua Community College in the small town of Roseburg, Ore. At least nine people were killed and the shooter was also later killed in a shootout with police, authorities said. Read more.

4. Some DeKalb school employees could see second raise of year

Superintendent Steve Green said a plan to give DeKalb teachers with five to 15 years of experience a raise in 2016 has been discussed publicly. The plan could cost about $20 million. Green said, "It's putting our money where our priority is." Read more.

5. The Braves entrust their future to Coppolella

John Coppolella, assistant general manager of the Atlanta Braves, was promoted Thursday to general manager after the worst Braves season in a quarter-century. Read more.
