Q: I think the park at Peachtree, West Paces and Roswell Road was more attractive before the renovation. I especially miss the “Buckhead” sculpture. Where is it now?

—Robin Taylor, Sandy Springs

A: "The Storyteller," the name of a bronze sculpture that features the head of a buck on a man's body sitting on part of a fallen tree, is in storage.

It will not return to Buckhead’s Charlie Loudermilk Park, a triangular 35,000-square-foot area were Peachtree and Roswell roads meet. The park is undergoing a $2.8 million renovation.

“We’re trying to find a new home for it,” Jim Durrett, executive director of the Buckhead Community Improvement District, told Q&A on the News. “When we do, we’ll pay to move it to the new location.”

The sculpture was commissioned in 1998 and included smaller animals, some of which were missing.

The park has reopened, but Durrett said more landscaping is scheduled and signage will be added. Also, “a special piece” of public art will be installed, he said.

Q: I’m wondering why Memorial Day wasn’t held the last weekend of the month, since that is when the 30th falls? Do you have an explanation for that decision?

—Jean Veasey, Stockbridge

A: Memorial Day is observed on the final Monday of May, which this year, was May 25. If Memorial Day had been pushed to the final weekend of May, the holiday would have fallen on June 1.
