Q: After a recent visit to Savannah, we were distressed at the surface of I-16. Why is that road in such bad shape, and why has nothing been done to improve it? We used back roads to return to Newnan. I-16 is one of the worst roads I have ever driven.

— Linda Satterfield, Newnan

A: There are "a few" resurfacing projects under way or scheduled for I-16, which runs from Macon to Savannah, but "reduced resources have made it difficult to support all the number of maintenance projects needed throughout the state," Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Natalie Dale told Q&A on the News in an email. I-16 is one of the least traveled interstates in the state, and the DOT has had to "prioritize projects based on the limited funding available" to maintain the interstate system, she wrote.

Q: Now that George Zimmerman is a free man, will his gun be returned to him?

— William McKee Jr., Flowery Branch

A: Zimmerman's Kel-Tec 9 mm PF-9 handgun will be returned to him if he wants it, his attorney told ABC News. Mark O'Mara said Zimmerman has reasons to arm himself. "There are a lot of people out there who actually hate him, though they shouldn't," he said. Sanford (Fla.) Police Capt. James McAuliffe told NBC News that Zimmerman would have to make a formal request for the return of his handgun. A Florida jury acquitted Zimmerman of second-degree murder in Trayvon Martin's death.
