Q: How many victims of the Boston Marathon bombing had limbs amputated?

— Judy Garner, Douglasville

A: At least 14 victims of the April 15 bombing had limbs amputated as of late last month. Of those, at least two had two limbs amputated, according to media reports. In the days after the attack, doctors at Boston Medical Center performed five amputations. There were four at Massachusetts General Hospital, three at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and one each at Brigham & Women's Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital. Other patients remained under observation by doctors, who hoped surgeries would be able to save limbs of those victims, according to The Boston Globe. There are about 400 trauma-related amputations a year in the U.S., according to the Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium at Johns Hopkins University, USA Today reported. Most amputations in the U.S. – about 150,000 a year – are related to nerve disease, it reported.

Q: Are there any plans to repave Satellite Boulevard in the near future? I travel that road every day, to and from work, and it needs to be repaved from beginning to end.

— Ashley Lynch, Duluth

A: Satellite Boulevard, which is in Gwinnett County, is not on the resurfacing list this year, Kim Conroy, the director of the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation, told Q&A on the News in an email. "We will continue to monitor (Satellite Boulevard) for future maintenance needs," he wrote.
