Q: Of the three girls who were found in the house in Cleveland, why was Michelle Knight the only one hospitalized several days?

—Jean Stone, Doraville

A: Knight was Ariel Castro's primary "punching bag," a source told CNN.com, during her 11-year captivity in the Cleveland home. Knight's grandmother told the media that Knight suffered hearing loss and might need facial reconstruction surgery. Knight also had at least five miscarriages while being held, according to a police report, as "Mr. Castro would starve Ms. Knight for weeks, she told the police, then repeatedly punch her in the stomach 'until she miscarried,' " The New York Times reported. She issued this statement days while in the hospital: "I am healthy, happy and safe and will reach out to family, friends and supporters in good time." Knight was held the longest of the three women. Amanda Berry was held 10 years and Gina DeJesus was missing for nine.
