Teen with life-threatening condition is granted selfless wish

A Pennsylvania teen with a life-threatening condition has been granted her wish for her team to compete at the color guard world championship next month in Dayton, Ohio.

Shelby Boyer, 18, is battling non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and the Make-A-Wish Foundation wanted to help.

Instead of taking a trip to Disney World or opting for a more solitary experience, Boyer wanted to do something for her Red Land High School color guard team.

Harrisburgh, Pa., TV station Fox43 interviewed the Boyer family and reported that Shelby has been competing in color guard since eighth grade and is happiest with a flag in her hand.

"I sat down one day with a friend and we were talking about trips for the band and guard and I said, what if I did that?" Boyer told Fox43. "That would be awesome."

With help from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Red Land's color guard team will compete in the WGI World Championships, in Dayton in April.

"I've never met a more selfless person in my life," Boyer's friend Corrine Walsh told Fox43. "The fact she's sharing her wish with us is unbelievably amazing."
