Cobb County police arrested a teenager in connection with a Monday night shooting that left an Austell woman dead and several children injured.

It appears that a neighborhood dispute escalated and shots were exchanged around 8:40 p.m. in the 7000 block of Oakhill Circle, Cobb police Sgt. Dana Pierce said.

One woman was shot to death and another woman was injured, Pierce said. Several children were injured, either shot or hit by debris. The wounded were transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The woman killed was identified Tuesday as Deirdre Smith, 47.

Cobb police spokesman Mike Bowman said Tuesday that investigators had arrested 17-year-old Khalil Kelly of Austell and charged him with murder and aggravated assault. He was being held without bond in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
